Today is the Day!

Do it for the better good...
or for the cool sticker we all get!
The day long awaited has arrived! The count down is over and everyone is ready to hit the streets!

No, it's not Black Friday. It's #ElectionDay! Midterms to be more specific. After the elections in 2016 that left the country torn, scared and frantic, this is the chance for things to change. And the best part? It's not just the young, or the marginalized, or the affected citizens that are making their voices heard and moving others to vote: the fashion industry has gotten involved in politics.

In an article found here, there was short list of some of the companies in the industry that had gotten involved and to what extent: Walmart, Toms, Patagonia, Tory Burch, Nordstrom, VF. Corp, Rachel Comey, New Balance, and Levi's. Many of the companies made sure that each of their stores accommodated every employee's schedule to give them a chance to vote, some closed their stores for the day completely, and another gave three hours paid time off to make ensure employees made it to the polls. Walmart launched a website with resources for employees register to vote, Tory Burch released special edition shirts, retailing at $68 where all the proceeds go towards Yara Shahidi's Eighteen x18 initiative, and (most interesting of all) New Balance teamed up with Betches and drove New York City residents to the polls today!

Out of the thousands of brands, companies and identities in the fashion industry, these were just a few that had actively been/are involved in getting people involved in these midterm election, getting them to the polls, and educating them, and honestly, that is just about one of the coolest things our industry could do: care. I know some people may think that the political advertisements popping up in their Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter feeds were getting annoying, but this matters. A Democratic win, either in the House of Representatives or the Senate, would give the party the power to open investigations into various parts of the Trump Administration. This is our future that we, exercising our right as American citizens and doing our part in civic duty, can attempt to make better than the path it's currently on.
