Be Careful in White

Can we
just get a "hoorah!" for Ariana Grande?!

Without a doubt, any of us that keep up with the latest news or music know of the breakup between SNL comedian Pete Davidson and pop star Ariana Grande, and the break-up song that ensued after, "Thank you, Next". The couple had been as far as being engaged and buying a place together in Manhattan, but unfortunately, they split and I honestly think we were all expecting a bitter love song from Ariana. But yet again, she proved to us how much a sweet and good person she is. In an article found in Vogue UK, we learned a bit more and details were explained. Not only her song, but the performance she put on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with two of her friends led to the much better conclusion from this break-up: that it was nothing to be bitter about, but a chance to better and strengthen oneself.

The entire performance was in reference to the movie "The First Wives Club," where three middle-aged women come up with a plan to get revenge on their cheating husbands, each of whom left them for a younger woman. In the end, though, there is a final performance in which the concluding lesson is how bettering oneself is a better usage of time.

The song itself is a sweet message about her ex's, instead of the expected bitter song. "Thank You, Next," thanked each of her precious partners, listing what each and every one of them taught her. All three dressed in white, referring the 1996 movie but each with their own more modern twist, Ari showed to us what it meant to be better. Instead of attacking and speaking foul of her past relationships, she looked at them as having something to learn from.

Although I'm never one to say that a specific singer is my idol, this move that Ari pulled is something that I aspire to do: I can comment on current situations, but reference the past, bettering myself  and being the bigger person in a rough situation.
